This herbal tea mix not only tastes delicious but is a wonderful natural sleep aid and will help you relax and sleep soundly.
For Various and Sundry reasons sleep has not been coming easily for me. I’m already prone to get restless leg and anxiety about how quickly morning will come doesn’t help matters much. After struggling with it for a few nights, I remembered an herbal tea mix that I made for my little daughter Rebekah who seems to have far too much energy to go to sleep and it would take her sometimes 2 hours or more after bedtime to finally fall asleep. Knowing how important sleep is for her, I formulated this recipe to help give her body a little nudge in the right direction.
What I’ve noticed for both Bekah and now myself is that it seems to be just enough to help us develop a normal sleep pattern and after a few nights it’s no longer necessary to keep drinking it.
Which is good because I’m not much of a tea drinker.
I find that most tea recipes have me either loading up the sweetener or letting it cool enough to chug it down. Not so with this herbal tea mix. This one is so delicious that I stir in a little bit of raw honey and sip it warm with enjoyment.
The recipe is full of traditional herbs and dried flowers, chamomile, hops, catnip, valerian, St. John’s wort, lavender, and rosehips. All known to work as sleep aids allowing you to relax enough to fall asleep.
Sleepytime Herbal Tea MixPrint
- Choose your measuring spoon or cup and measure out 8 scoops of chamomile flowers, 3 parts of hops flower, 3 scoops of catnip, 1 scoop of valerian root, 1 scoop of St. John’s Wort, 1/2 a scoop of lavender flowers, and 1/2 a scoop of rosehips.
- Stir to mix them all together well. Label your jar.
- To prepare the tea, shake the jar to mix the herbs together.
- Pour about 1 cup of boiling water over 1 Tablespoon of the herbal tea mix and allow it to steep for about 20-30 minutes.
- Strain the herbs from the tea and stir in a spoon that was first dipped in raw honey.
- (Sometimes if I plan to drink it for a couple nights I will also pour a quart of boiling water over 1/4 cup of tea mix and allow it to infuse 12-24 hours before straining.)
*Several of the ingredients in this recipe are not recognized to be safe for use during pregnancy. My pregnancy sleep tea is a mix of chamomile & oats and I add in nettles and alfalfa which are rich blood builders. (Super important since your blood volume increases so drastically during pregnancy.)
