Let’s Celebrate!
A party without cake is just a meeting. – Julia Child
Celebrations are an integral part of the way we interact with one another. It’s the foundation upon which some of our most fond memories are built. Our past remembrances of food fill our souls, knitting us together in the fabric of life, every bit as much as the food itself first filled our bellies.
A little slice of cake has come to be a familiar way to commemorate the special days in our lives, a bite of sweetness for the sweetest moments. The collection of scratch-baked recipes in Cake Stand: Fresh from the Market Farmstead Cakes allows you to embrace those memorable times with dessert that conveys your commitment to serving your family the very best.

{Sweets As Part of a Healthy Lifestyle}
Through the passionate sharing of knowledge now available on the internet, the barrier between the general public and information about healthy eating has been lifted. We no longer are dependent on the USDA to draw us pictures of what a “healthy” diet should look like. What a blessing!
Healthy eating is a journey and many of us are on different parts of the path. Some are just starting out, learning to read labels, asking the question, “Is that really food?” Others have been working hard to educate themselves for a while and have many kitchen skills in their tool belt. Some have learned that the way they’ve been eating has created problems with their health and must start making the changes so they can feel better.
Our family has been conscientiously participating in our food production, scratch-cooking and baking, and constantly making changes to improve our diets for well over a decade. We didn’t start making changes because of medical reasons, we just wanted a feeling of overall well-being. We wanted children who were healthy, active, and could grow to become productive, useful adults who could have their own healthy & active children.
Wherever we are on the path, we should be working diligently to encourage one another. Not condemning those who aren’t where we are on the journey.
Can a slice of cake to celebrate your child’s birthday be part of a healthy lifestyle? Absolutely!
It’s not so much the piece of cake that will matter to your overall health and well-being, but what you eat the rest of the time.
Cake Stand is a part of my healthy living journey. I’ve worked hard to create recipes that I could feel good about bringing into our families celebrations without feeling guilty and that showcased the work we do as part of the local food movement. I was able to weave our food philosophy and beliefs into the very fabric of our celebrations.
