Bread of Life {A Giveaway}
It has been nearly a decade since I taught myself how to sew. I’ve understood the value in the skill. How I could create frugal clothing and furnishings for our home and take my husband’s hard earned dollar further. But it has always been something I had to endure and get through each spring and fall. Certainly nothing I ever looked forward to or actually enjoyed doing!
Especially over the last couple years as my sewing machine started falling apart one piece at a time. I had nicknamed it “The Toe Cramper” because the plastic on top of the presser foot broke and I’d have to use my big toe to slide down a small, very small, sharp piece of plastic to run it. Then the machine fell to the ground and the bobbin winder was crooked and took forever to spin while I held it on with my fingers and finally a coil of metal on the presser foot snapped off and it stopped working altogether.
I was ecstatic!
Not because I could no longer sew, but because it would force the issue and I would have to get my antique 1921 Singer sewing machine in good working order. Thanks to a lovely and extremely kind neighbor who knows how to do just that I finally have sat down and found pleasure in sewing! It is so quiet and wonderful to work with! And while I’m making those neat even stitches, I ponder about the hands who have used it before me and what they created with it. I love knowing that it’s a timeless, classic piece of equipment and will one day become a family heirloom…
It is a deeply satisfying feeling knowing that you have purchased something that wasn’t meant to break in a few years so that you’d be forced to purchase new but instead you’re going about your domestic duties with tools meant to last more than a lifetime!
I envision my daughters teaching their daughters skills that will serve them so well on that machine! Wouldn’t that be something?
And, likewise, I envision my grandchildren and perhaps great grandchildren seeing the food that nourishes and sustains them being served on my new, hand crafted, engraved, and heirloom quality butcher block cutting board.
Isn’t it beautiful!?
I custom-ordered it from Haven Enterprises, the same wonderful family who has made the door casing above our entry door. I’m very much looking forward to having this piece become part of our family’s memories around the table!
Once again, they have most generously offered to give away a similar bread board to one of my readers!!
What a wonderful gift! What amazing craftsmanship! Isn’t it absolutely lovely? I’m so blessed to be able to take a small part in passing along this opportunity to get a family heirloom in your hands and into the memories of your children!
Means of entry for this giveaway are few and simple. I know you’re busy and I want you to be able to take advantage of all the opportunities to “win.” It will run from now until next Monday night at 11:59 pm EST.
In the meanwhile, please take a few moments and browse Haven Enterprises shop and perhaps avail yourself of their Cyber Monday sale!

Love “The good of the Land” Breadboard.
thank you so much for your posts!
I’ve spent many hours just reading over your posts as my husband and I try to figure out a way to get into homesteading. However, with student loans hanging over, I feel like it will be a few years yet. My dad has promised to get my sons some chickens though and maybe a few goats! He owns land in the country so he has this ability. We rent in the city so our neighbors would not like hearing goats or chickens or seeing them at all haha. Though we could probably get them to reconsider with fresh eggs 😛

There’s so many, its hard to decide! I love their doorposts by the way – yours is especially beautiful. I like the one that says “I am the Bread of Life” on the side of it. What a beautiful reminder of truth! Also – I loved the story about your antique sewing machine. I can’t wait to hear how you like it. I just ordered one from Lehman’s that isn’t antique – but its a treadle machine and should last for years to come! I’m really excited – so your story especially hit home with me. May God continue to bless you – and as always – thanks for your blog!
For the first time I actually enjoy sewing! The stitches are so neat & even! I love that I can listen to the children talk to me or perhaps a sermon or podcast while sewing. It’s so relaxing now 🙂 I’ll never own a regular machine again! I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!
They are all very wonderful. But I think I like the Black Walnut Bread of Life board the most. Blessings!
