~Observations on Freedom Rangers at 12 Weeks~

  • 18 July, 2011

Today I’m sharing a few things that I noticed as the Freedom Rangers continued to grow for anyone who may be contemplating raising them for meat production.

The last 12 weeks have been filled with numerous pros and cons and ultimately we aren’t convinced that it is the breed we raised or the method of raising we implemented that was successful. We decided that for our second batch, we would see how a Cornish type broiler will do under the same growing conditions before we make our final decision. Sadly for my readers this means that you will have to wait another couple of months for our verdict.

These birds were scheduled for slaughter late last week, but an illness virtually incapacitated us last week. Between the continued recovery, our busy schedule this week, and the 90 degree heat forecasted, I don’t know that we’ll get to them this week either. We’ll see.

Whenever it does occur, consider yourself forewarned as I will be posting a butchering tutorial or video (suppose a video would be kindest since you get to make the decision of whether to look at it or not by clicking play) as well as our final financial tabulations for this project.
