In Praise of a Scoon

| book review, In the Kitchen, keeper at home

Check out my new set of spoons from Amazing Graze General Store! They are heavy duty durable & multi-functional measuring spoons. I love them!

So I’ve got this problem. I don’t know if it’s a “large family” problem or a “medium family” problem. Or a “small family” problem, but deep down I suspect it’s a “my family” problem. Well let’s put it this way, when I was a kid, my mama sure didn’t have this problem! What is it […] Read more…

| book review, In the Kitchen, links

untitled

It has been nearly a decade since I taught myself how to sew. I’ve understood the value in the skill. But it has always been something I had to endure and get through each spring and […] Read more…

The thought that anyone wouldn’t be a “cake person” never crossed my mind until I met Bill. Who doesn’t love cake and look forward finding any opportunity to partake in a piece?! I mean, isn’t that the whole reason why I’m shooting for a dozen kids? Sure, things got messed up a bit what with […] Read more…

apple+jelly-5.jpg

Spiced Apple Jelly is by far and away my favorite jelly. Sure, nothing says early summer like a good strawberry jam and believe me, I do appreciate strawberry jam, but if you twist my arm and make me choose, I’m going to pick the apple jelly. Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches

Don’t judge me. I burnt my buns. That makes for three times running that I went to make French Dip Sammies to share with you and burnt my buns. But since these are the least burnt, I’m going for it anyway. My only consolation is the Dip in these little guys makes up for all […] Read more…

~How to Skim Milk (The Hands-Free Way) VIDEO~

| dairy, In the Kitchen

{Equipment} 1 Spring-type Clothespin 1 Vinyl Tube, ¼" or more wide and at least 3 feet long 1 jar or container large enough to put the skim milk in. {Directions} •Put a jar of milk where the cream has risen to the top on a high surface, such as a counter or table. •Place the empty jar on a chair or on the ground (depending on how long your tube is.) •Slip one end of the tube down into the milk until it hits the bottom. (I like it close the the bottom "corner" of the bottle so I can watch it at the end. •Create suction to draw the milk through the tube. •Place the tube into the empty jar and allow the skimmed milk to flow. •Clip the tube to the rim of the milk jar so you don't have to hold it and walk away!

I’m busy. You’re busy. We’re all busy. I’m not just normal busy this year either. I’m scared about how I’ll get it all done and still find time to enjoy having a new baby, the sun rises, the smells of the earth busy. Having over 7000 extra square feet of thistle garden will do that […] Read more…

I’m a big stickler on everyone pulling their weight around here.  There really “ain’t no such thing as a free lunch.” I’m not saying that everyone does (or that even I always do.) But it’s the ideal. But in a perfect world everyone has their jobs and someone needs to take out the trash. Actually, […] Read more…
