65 Recipes for how to use and preserve GREEN tomatoes

Once the first hard frost hits, the tomato season is officially over. Here are 65 recipes for how to use, cook, fry, can, and preserve GREEN tomatoes that you pick the day before your first first!

Whelp. It’s official. The 2014 Tomato Season is all wrapped up here at Reformation Acres.

Considering how cool and wet this year was, I feel blessed beyond measure that we didn’t experience any blight and were able to bring in probably close to 500 pounds of tomatoes this year! Blown away by God’s goodness to us!

Even with all of that bounty, I couldn’t bear to watch the first hard frost be forecasted this week  and all those green tomatoes still hanging on the vines go to waste. I ended up harvesting an additional 30 or so pounds of good green and orange tomatoes and now I’m trying to figure out what to do with them tomorrow morning.

I could just let them ripen indoors, but I think I’m feeling adventurous.  I think Green Tomato & Apple Chutney is calling my name!

But with 64 other choices, who’s to say I won’t change my mind by then!

Do you think you would try any of these recipes for green tomatoes or allow them to ripen instead?

ooh what a great list! The Lord is merciful! You were right to pick those tomatoes and put them to good use. May I ask how many plants you grew to get such a big yield this year?

I’ve never had anything with green tomatoes, it’s not really a thing here. Then again, we never had more than a few plants growing up, so we would just let the tomatoes left mature indoors.

    • I can’t say for sure how many I had, but I’d say the bulk of the yield came from the 18 or so heirloom & cherry tomatoes in the Kitchen garden. I had just as many, if not more, canning tomatoes in the Pantry Garden and I can only remember bringing in two bushels from them.

As it stands, I’ve never had anything from green tomatoes either. Every recipe I clicked on this week to try had something in it I didn’t have in the pantry 🙂 Guess I’d better get menu planning for next week!

  • Happy to be included among such great recipes!

  • Thanks so much for including my green tomato panzanella recipe among all these wonderful recipes! 🙂

    • You’re welcome! Thanks for the beautiful recipe!
